Mention alternative and Mention competitors for teams priced out of the Company plan

MentionAlert is a Mention alternative for small and mid sized US teams that want instant keyword alerts without a $7,188 annual commitment. Since July 2025 Mention sells new customers a single Company plan that starts at $599 a month on yearly billing, with 5 alerts and 50,000 mentions. MentionAlert Starter costs $24 a month billed yearly for 5 keywords and instant email alerts, and Team is $74 a month with Slack, webhooks and 20 keywords. Mention still covers Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, which MentionAlert does not.

Mention figures come from its public pricing page and help center as checked in October 2026. Mention does not print the dollar amount on its pricing page, so the $599 figure is the starting price stated in its plan documentation and confirmed by Capterra and Toolradar. Why teams look for a Mention alternative in 2026

Most people searching for a replacement used Mention on one of the old self serve plans. Solo, Pro and Pro Plus were affordable entry points for a founder or a small marketing team, and in July 2025 Mention stopped selling them to new customers. Anyone setting up a new account, or a team whose legacy plan ends, now looks at a Company plan that starts at $599 a month and is sold on an annual contract. For a company that tracked its brand name and two competitors, that is a jump of several thousand dollars a year for the same job.

The second change came on January 30, 2026, when Mention retired its Publish and Respond features after the move into Agorapulse. Teams that used one tool to listen and reply now need two subscriptions anyway, which makes it a natural moment to ask whether the listening half is worth $7,188 a year.

The third reason is fit. Mention's 50,000 monthly mentions are shared across five alerts and every workspace. A broad alert on a common word can eat most of that cap in a week, while the alerts that matter to sales or support compete for the same budget.

When you should stay with Mention

Mention is the better choice if your customers talk about you on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Pinterest. MentionAlert does not collect those networks, so a consumer brand built on visual social channels would lose coverage by switching. Mention's Boolean queries of up to 2,000 characters also give an analyst more room for one complex search than a list of separate keywords does.

Mention also suits a larger marketing team that already pays for Agorapulse and wants listening from the same vendor, or one that uses most of the 50,000 mentions every month. At that volume, $599 a month is a reasonable price per mention, and the multi user access covers a whole department.

Why teams pick MentionAlert over Mention

The first reason is price at small volume. If you track a brand name, a few products and two or three competitors, you need 5 to 20 keywords and a few thousand mentions a month, not 50,000. That costs $24 or $74 a month on MentionAlert, billed in dollars, with monthly billing available on every plan.

The second is routing. Each keyword keeps its own sources, exclude words and delivery. Your brand name can send an instant email to the founder, complaint phrases can post to the support channel in Slack, and competitor names can go to a daily digest for product. The alert that needs a reply in the next hour does not sit in the same inbox as a broad industry search.

The third is where B2B buyers talk. Software, professional services and hospitality companies get reviewed on review sites, debated on Reddit and Hacker News and quoted in trade press. Those sources sit at the center of MentionAlert, together with Bluesky and Q&A sites. How to move from Mention to MentionAlert in one afternoon

  1. 01

Open each Mention alert and copy the Boolean query, the excluded terms and the languages.

  2. 02

Split each Boolean query into the phrases that need someone to act. A query like brand OR product OR misspelling becomes three keywords, each with its own delivery.

  3. 03

Create the keywords in MentionAlert. Excluded terms become exclude words on the same keyword.

  4. 04

Choose sources per keyword. Put review sites, Reddit and news on the brand keyword, and keep competitor keywords on news, forums and Hacker News.

  5. 05

Set delivery. Instant email for the brand name, Slack for complaint phrases, a daily digest for broad category terms.

  6. 06

Run both tools side by side until the Mention renewal date, then compare which one surfaced the mentions you acted on.

Mention's history stays in Mention, so export the reports and data you need before access ends. MentionAlert starts collecting the moment a keyword is saved.
