Monitor competitors across news, Reddit, X and reviews
MentionAlert tracks every public mention of your competitors next to your own brand, so you see a rival launch, a price change thread or a wave of complaints about their product the same day it happens. Add a competitor as a tracked keyword, pick the sources that matter and get alerts by email, Slack or webhook within minutes.
What you learn when you watch competitor mentions
Product marketers usually hear about a competitor launch from a sales rep who lost a deal. By then the announcement is a week old, the press cycle is over and the comparison posts are already ranking. Watching competitor mentions as they appear gives you the launch, the first reactions and the questions buyers ask, while there is still time to respond.
- Launch announcements, funding news and new feature posts on news sites and blogs
- Pricing complaints and "is it worth it" threads on Reddit and Q&A sites
- Review site posts where buyers explain why they left a competitor
- Hacker News and X discussions that compare your product with theirs
- Hiring and partnership news that hints at a new market

Set up competitor monitoring in four steps
-
01
Create a brand for your company and add your own name and product names as tracked keywords.
-
02
Add each competitor as a keyword of the type competitor, with spelling variants and product names.
-
03
Use boolean filters to exclude noise. A competitor called after a common word needs exclude words, a language and, if you sell in one market, a country.
-
04
Route the competitor keywords to their own Slack channel or webhook, so product marketing gets competitor news and support keeps its own stream.
Each new mention arrives with the source, the snippet, a link, an automatic sentiment score and the reach the source reports, such as points, likes or views. Nothing is estimated when the source does not provide it.
Competitor workflows teams run every week
A product marketing lead filters competitor mentions to negative sentiment on review sites and Reddit, and turns recurring complaints into battlecard points. A founder reads the daily digest of competitor news with coffee instead of opening ten tabs. A content team watches questions like "alternative to" plus a competitor name and writes the comparison page people are already asking for.
- Daily digest of competitor news for the leadership team
- Instant Slack alert when a competitor is mentioned together with your brand
- Webhook into your CRM or data warehouse for long term analysis
- CSV export of a quarter of competitor mentions for a pricing review
If your main channel is Reddit, the Reddit keyword alerts page shows subreddit filters in detail, and twitter monitoring tools covers posts and replies on X.
Which plan fits your competitor watchlist
Count your own brand terms plus three to five terms per competitor. That number tells you the plan.
| Plan | Yearly price | Monthly price | Brands | Keywords | Mentions per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $24/month, billed $288/yr | $49 | 1 | 5 | 5,000 |
| Team | $74/month, billed $888/yr | $149 | 3 | 20 | 25,000 |
| Agency | $199/month, billed $2,388/yr | $399 | 15 client workspaces | 80 | 100,000 |
| Enterprise | $499/month, billed $5,988/yr | $999 | 50 | 300 | 500,000 |
Starter suits a founder watching one or two rivals with email alerts. Team adds Slack and webhook routing, a weekly PDF report and 12 months of history, which most product marketing teams need for competitor analysis. Yearly billing saves 50 percent and is the default. Full details are on the media monitoring tools page.
Questions about competitor monitoring
Yes. MentionAlert collects only public mentions from public sources, through official APIs and public feeds under each platform's terms. It does not read private groups, login only content or anything a platform forbids collecting.
Usually three to five: the company name, the main product name, a common misspelling and sometimes the founder's or the product's handle. Boolean filters keep a generic name from flooding your feed.
Yes. Routing is set per keyword, so competitor keywords can post to a product marketing Slack channel or a webhook while brand mentions go to support.
Yes. Every collected mention counts, whatever keyword it matched. Deleting mentions does not free quota, which renews with each billing period.
On Team you keep 12 months of mention history, on Agency 24 months and on Enterprise 36 months, so you can compare quarters and years within that window.
