PR monitoring tools for coverage, share of voice and reporting

A PR team is judged on coverage it can prove. MentionAlert collects every public article, blog post and social mention of your company and spokespeople, shows how your share of voice moves against competitors and turns the month into a coverage report leadership can read in five minutes. No sales call, no annual negotiation, a price on the page.

Press coverage tracking without the clipping spreadsheet

Many comms teams still keep coverage in a spreadsheet: a link, an outlet, a date and a note, copied in by hand after a morning of searching. MentionAlert replaces that routine. Add your company name, product names, executive names and campaign phrases as keywords, and every new article on news sites and blogs lands in the feed with the outlet, the headline, the date and a sentiment score.

Social pickup comes with it. When an article is shared on X, Reddit, Hacker News or Bluesky, those mentions appear next to the original story, with points, likes or views when the source reports them. You see which stories travelled and which stayed on one site. The news monitoring page covers outlet filters and languages in detail.

  • Executive and spokesperson names tracked as their own keywords
  • Campaign and announcement phrases tracked during a launch window
  • Language and country filters for regional press
  • Exclude words for names that collide with other people or places

Share of voice in your category

Share of voice tells leadership whether your story is winning attention against the companies you compete with. MentionAlert counts collected mentions for your brand and for each competitor keyword across the same sources and period, then shows the split per week and per source. A launch week shows up as a visible rise, and a competitor announcement that pulled attention away shows up too.

Because sentiment is scored on every mention, you can separate attention from approval. A rise in share of voice made of negative coverage is a different conversation than a rise made of product reviews. More on that in social media sentiment tracking and on the monitor competitors page.

A monthly coverage report for leadership

At the end of each month the team owes a summary to the CMO, the founder or the board. On Team you get a weekly PDF report and CSV export, and you can put four weeks side by side for the monthly view. The report holds mention volume, sentiment trend, top mentions, the source split, share of voice and the negative mentions that need context. Agencies and larger comms teams can send white-label reports on a schedule, and Enterprise adds custom report templates. See every report section on the media monitoring reports page.

A short written note from the team on top of the report is still the best part. MentionAlert gives you the numbers and the links, and you add what they mean.

Respond fast when a story breaks

When a reporter writes about your company, the hours after publication decide whether your view is in the follow up stories. Instant alerts arrive within minutes of collection, by email on every plan and in Slack or by webhook on Team and higher. Route spokesperson names to the comms lead and product names to product marketing, so each question reaches the person who can answer it.

  • Instant alert for the company name in news sources
  • Daily digest for campaign phrases and industry terms
  • Crisis alert when negative mentions jump above their usual level
  • Weekly email summary for the wider team

Most in house PR teams choose Team: 20 keywords for the company, executives, products and three or four competitors, 12 months of history for year on year comparisons and five seats. Multi-brand companies and comms departments that need SSO (SAML), an audit log and invoice billing pick Enterprise. Yearly billing saves 50 percent and is the default.
