Media monitoring FAQ for marketing and PR teams
These are the questions buyers ask before they trust a tool with their brand. The answers describe how MentionAlert works today, including the parts that limit what any monitoring tool can see.
Sources and legality
MentionAlert watches news sites, blogs, Reddit, X (Twitter), YouTube, forums, Hacker News, Q&A sites, Bluesky and review sites. Every plan includes all of them, and you choose per keyword which ones to use.
Yes. MentionAlert reads only public content and collects it through official APIs and public feeds under each platform's terms. It does not scrape sites against their terms, and it shows each mention with a link to where it was published.
No. Private groups, direct messages and pages that need a login are out of scope. If a person with a normal browser and no account cannot read a post, MentionAlert does not collect it either.
No. Coverage is limited to the online sources listed above. Print and broadcast coverage that is also published online, for instance as an article on a news site, is picked up through that online version.
Speed and accuracy
Instant email, Slack and webhook alerts go out within minutes of a new mention being collected. The daily digest arrives once a day at the hour you set, and Enterprise alerts use priority delivery.
Each mention is scored automatically by an in-house model as positive, neutral or negative. Automatic scoring reads tone well in plain language and can miss sarcasm or industry slang, so open the mention whenever a decision depends on it.
Reach is the figure the source itself publishes, such as points, likes or views. When a source does not provide one, the reach field stays empty rather than showing a guess.
Use the boolean filters on each keyword. Include words require context, exclude words remove known noise, exact phrase locks word order, and language, country and source filters narrow the rest. Changes apply to new mentions right away.
Plans and limits
A mention is one post, article, comment, video or review that matches one of your keywords and passes its filters. Each one counts once toward the monthly limit of your plan when it is collected.
No. The limit counts mentions collected during the billing period, so deleting them from the feed does not give quota back. A new period starts with a fresh count.
The homepage demo lets you type a brand and see a few recent public mentions with sentiment, no card and no account needed. Full monitoring with alerts and reports runs on one of the four paid plans, compared on the media monitoring tools page.
Billing and cancellation
Plans are paid by card, monthly or yearly, in US dollars with taxes added where applicable. Yearly billing is the default and costs half the monthly price. Enterprise can also pay by invoice.
Yes. Cancel in your account at any moment. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for and then does not renew.
No. Payments are final, and the cases our refund policy covers are listed there. Cancelling stops future renewals and does not reverse a payment already made.
An upgrade takes effect immediately and the price difference is charged right away. A downgrade starts at your next renewal, so you keep the current limits until then.
Agencies
Yes. The Agency plan includes 15 client workspaces, each with its own keywords, alert routing and reports, plus 15 seats and roles per workspace. The media monitoring service page walks through the setup.
Yes. On Agency and Enterprise, PDF reports are white-label and can be scheduled straight to each client. Enterprise adds custom report templates.
Data and security
Mention history is 30 days on Starter, 12 months on Team, 24 months on Agency and 36 months on Enterprise. Older mentions drop out of the feed and reports on a rolling basis.
Yes. Enterprise includes SSO with SAML, roles, an audit log and a 99.9 percent uptime SLA. The full overview for procurement is on the media intelligence platform page.
